    Installer was not working

Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere, but I did not see it.

I was doing a clean install a couple of days ago and and the install would hang at the identification of the drives. There is a bug posted, but the quick work around is to: Start KDE partition manager, delete all partitions and do not format the drive. Restart your computer and try to install again. Your single drive will be recognised and the install will continue. Install with "use entire disk" not manual. I tried using the manual to setup more partitions, but grub bombed after I removed my USB drive.

This will work for you, if you don't mind deleting your whole drive. If you cant do that, you will have to wait for the bug to be fixed.

Hope this saves someone some time.

I found a different cause of the problem, an other Hard Disk.
When removing the second HDD the partitions on the first disk ARE recognised.

Interesting. I have only one drive and my DVD drive was unplugged.

I gave up trying to get the installer (Ubiquity) to work on my machine. I installed 12.10 along side my current install of 12.10, then upgraded the new install to 13.04. Worked like a charm and only took a half-hour longer to do - much less time than I spent futzing about with Ubiquity.

          1. Download Ubuntu server ISO.

          2. Use the advanced mode command line installer.

          3. At package selection time, deselect everything.

          4. Boot your freshly-installed text-mode Ubuntu.

          5. Remove the little bit of unnecessary server stuff:
          Code:
          sudo tasksel remove server
          6. Install Kubuntu:
          Code:
          sudo tasksel install kubuntu-desktop
