Smartphone and tablet support is very minimal as far as I can tell. The list of supported devices numbers less than ten last I checked. Actually (and I am ready for the pile-on and stomping for saying this ) this is why I was hoping for Ubuntu to move into the smartphone market. At this point, the best you can do to get away from google is to root, install one of the many blobs from xda developers (I use cyanogenmod myself) and then don't install google apps.

Better to have a goodle-d phone than a bricked one!

This is how I fly, mostly... can't wean myself off Maps, though, because its info on public transit can't be beat. Oh, and of course I still use the Play Store. F-Droid and the other alternate markets still don't have too much.
