however, the PM that i sent to you was AFTER i had already spent 4 days agonising over a computer that worked perfectly well in every other respect, but had no sound, and, since i sent you the PM and then, shortly afterwards, discovered the solution myself, i wasn't really counting your response as a part of this thread.
