What to do?
There's clearly a problem here, since there are a number of people (but not a majority) with the same experience. I don't know how much the system maintainers care about this situation, or even how they can determine the cause of the problem. The evidence is strong but not overwhelming that the problem does not have to do with anything you did or didn't do, or even what your system configuration is. We've both eliminated the choice of download site as a cause.
I wish I knew just how the notification that a new release is available is triggered. Understanding that would be a big help, but no one here seems to know.Comment

Well, what ever my problem was, they fixed in an update last week. I now see the upgrade is available.Comment
