Muon updater hangs during post-install package update

I've tried numerous times to install Kubuntu 11.4 under a VWWare 7.1 VM. The install completes successfully but when I try to apply the existing updates the muon updater hangs partway through the process. I am unable to kill muon from its window when this happens, but I can open a shell and do an explicit kill of the muon process. However, after doing this, the system is not usable. There are no applications listed under the Applications page, and the mouse tends to move in a very jerky manner.

This happens 100% of the times I've tried to install 11.4. The hang is always at 43% with the package libtaskmanager4abi2. I don't think it is the package itself though because if I remove this package from the update list, the updater still hangs, but on some other package.

    Is this a known problem?

Note: Ubuntu 11.4 installs without problems.

I can confirm this. Had this happen once a couple weeks ago.

    Update in the terminal:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
There have been a few threads here and on the Ubuntu forums about this as well:
    http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthr...ailure-this-AM
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1939503

Doesnt look like anybody has filed a bug report about this yet...

This was a bug fixed with QApt 1.2.3. You can get updated packages for Muon and QApt here: https://launchpad.net/~echidnaman/+archive/qapt/

Thanks, I'll have to check this out. This is my first experience with Kubuntu. I've primarily worked in the Redhat/Fedora/SUSE/rpm world. Have to learn this new environment...

It happened to me too while installing Kubuntu 11.10 on a USB-HDD, like you install was fine, and Muon hangs half way through updating.
I solved it by using Muon to install Synaptic then using synaptic to do the update...

I will say that as of 12.04 beta 2, muon works very well and you shouldn't have these problems.
