    Kate and Kwrite are very sluggish

    Hi,

    I'm a very new Kubuntu user and one that's very impressed with your produce...Overall - bravo job well done.

    I have only one inquiry...well two related ones. Why is Kate and Kwrite so sluggish? I get better performance from Kdevelop than I can get from from Kate and Kwrite.

    Has anyone experienced this problem....I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 x86_64.

    I haven't noticed any slowness. Have you tried launching them from a terminal to see if there's any error output?

    If I had to guess, I'd blame your theme. Try changing themes and/or icon sets just to see if anything changes.

        I tried running Kate from the Konsole and it produced this output

        kate
        QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
        QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/gerard/.config/ibus/bus

        IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

          On a positive note. I reinstalled Kubuntu 10.10 x86_64 and the sluggishness is gone..

            See what happens when installation is made so easy?

            It becomes the fix for every problem.

                That's how Windows has been doing it for years. I just hope it never becomes conventional wisdom for Linux to reinstall the OS every six-months.

                  Yeah, I agree. On the other hand - 30 minutes to do a fresh kubuntu install - all day to do an XP install.

                  As someone who enjoys the "hunt" of solving a problem, rather than painting over it - it is very frustrating when you spend hours researching something and then they re-install and wipe out any evidence of what went wrong.

                  However, this is a brand new release so weird issues are likely to float around for a while.
