    First impressions Maveric 10.10

    I got Maveric when in was released as alpha last week.

    Overall it is a great alpha and I am very impressed.

    Very fast and responsive. KDE4.5 beta1 / qt4.7 are (again) a big step forward.

    Neat little tweaks and more to come by August I am sure.

    akonadi seems to be behaving (except for syncing google cal.)

    There are a few little things that I have noticed though:

    - KDM forgets username yo you have to type it every time
    - Num lock greyed out.
    - Can't get the bouncing mouse pointer to stop bouncing (where have they hidden that feature)
    - Folder view not installed by default
    - klipper is still persistant. Should be fixed by veriosn 4.4.81
    - Kontact works after update and installing libkontactinterface4 and libakonadi-contact4
    - No way to chose Sender/Receiver choice in the dropdown list on the header bar in kmail.
    This is probably a Kubuntu thing:

    When I get around to it I'll be testing on my notebook and see how wireless, etc work.

    The Systemsettings module seems to be missing, but you can edit ~/.kde/share/config/klaunchrc to change the settings (here's mine):
    Code:
    [BusyCursorSettings]
    Blinking=false
    Bouncing=false
    Timeout=30

    [FeedbackStyle]
    BusyCursor=false
    TaskbarButton=false

    [TaskbarButtonSettings]
    Timeout=30
    - No way to chose Sender/Receiver choice in the dropdown list on the header bar in kmail.
    This works as expected on my end

      klaunchrc is missing.

      Maybe a few other rc's are missing.

      Do you you know which one controls the kmail header bar? Had a look at kmailrc but couldn't find anything

        User rc files are generally created when you actually change the default settings, so it's likely missing because you haven't changed the settings (which is hard to accomplish without the systemsettings module :P)

        That's why I included mine, so you could create the and copy (and edit if you like) the contents into yours.

        I have "show*Column=" tags in the [General] section and a [Header-Geometry] section. You can try renaming your kmailrc (don't delete so you can restore it back) to see if it makes a difference.

          added:

          no change.

            Sorry for not being more clear, I meant that I have a list like this under [General]:
            Code:
            showAttachmentColumn=true
            showAttachmentIcon=true
            showCryptoColumn=false
            showCryptoIcons=false
            showImportantColumn=true
            showMessageSize=true
            showReceiverColumn=false
            showSignedColumn=false
            showSpamHamColumn=true
            showStatusColumn=true
            showToActColumn=true
            showTodoColumn=true
            and this:
            Code:
            [Header-Geometry]
            ColumnOrder=5,6,7,8,9,4,0,1,3,2,10,11,12
            ColumnWidths=310,170,170,80,0,24,24,24,24,24,0,0,0
            SortAscending=true
            SortColumn=2
            However, I'm not sure whether these settings are actually used, or if they are just "left-overs" from previous versions (my maverick is an upgrade, not a clean installation).

            Could you describe your issue in more detail, if you right-click on the header bar, the popup menu doesn't show "Sender/Receiver" choice at all?

            And did you try renaming kmailrc?

              I got rid of network-manager and installed wicd instead. Wireless worked right away. Had to move the computer and went exclusively wireless.

              Worked again like a charm. For a while.
              Then the evil witch caught up with it and away went wireless . . .

              WPA2 became WPA and that was the end of any connection. In the meantime I managed to erase wicd. It was m fault.

              Without a wired connection reinstallation will be a major challenge.

                I couldn't successfully install it on Virtualbox, but running the Live CD seems OK.

                  I had tried renaming kmailrc on various occasions.

                  After todays update it works

                    Glad you got it fixed, although it would've been nice to actually find out the cause (seemed like a rather strange issue)

                      agreed but I wouldn' know where to look.

                      It works on lucid with kde4.5 beta1 and seems to work on fedora13 according and anothers 10.10 alpha to this:

                            Indeed. I still have serious troubles finding the stuff I'm looking for. Why do I always stare at the icons for 10-15 seconds before I remember to use the search box?
