Kubuntu not remembering my resolution settings

I have a 24 inch monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1080. I set that as my resolution in System Settings, but when I reboot the system, it always reverts to 1024x768. There doesn't appear to be any other way to save my settings. Am I missing something?

No, it's an NVidia GForce 7600. I checked that message anyway, and confirmed that the Session Manager is set to "restore previous session" on boot up.

I think the proprietary NVidia driver will work, but it isn't very smart about my dual display. I have my TV hooked up as a second output, and the open source driver in Kubuntu is much smarter about it than the proprietary one.

Either build an xorg.conf or set your xrandr commands to run at boot up.

Perhaps you'd be kind enough to point some of them out for me. I searched several times with various keywords and didn't find anything helpful.

When the UI has facilities to do this, I shouldn't have to root around to create an xorg.conf, and that's pretty irresponsible advice to users when you don't really know their level of expertise. I've never heard of xrandr, so that doesn't help much either.

I have had this problem with Kubuntu now with every version since 8.1 I don't worry about it anymore, just go into settings on startup & change the resolution to the required value as it only takes a few seconds.

It seems to be a Kubuntu problem as other distros I have installed on my computer such as Mandriva, Ubuntu and CentOS to name a few have all been OK with the same version of the nVidia driver.

It would be nice to find a fix but just deal with it !

Judging by your attitude, I think it unlikely that you are sorry at all, but I am grateful for your promise to refrain from further advice. Should make the forum experience much more pleasant for me. Beckfield, try generating a new xorg.conf. First - back up your original one (in case something goes wrong). Start nvidia-settings . Choose "X server display configuration" and change display resolution to desired one. Choose "Save to X configuration file" button. Replace your old xorg.conf with the new one. Restart X server and hopefully it will work.

Thanks for your reply. The proprietary driver does work, and I've finally resorted to using it. I was hoping to stick with the default open source driver, but it isn't worth the trouble.
