    Problem loading kubuntu 10.04 LiveCD

I want to install kubuntu 10.04 and want to work with it on LiveCD first.

    What should I do?

    thanx a lot!

I don't have a direct answer for you but perhaps you can find inspiration for a fix in these other threads where this was discussed here. (and here)

Thank you for replying Ole Juul, but, the links that you've broght in your message arn't fitting to my question.

my problem is that the LiveCD don't work at all, and not looping back to any place.

btw, I had a problem with ubuntu's LiveCD as well. there someone has told me to check some option on the boot menu. and after that it worked fine.

I think that it has a problem because of my graphic card.
      (Nvidia GeForce GO 8300m)

      Thanx alot!

Oh well, I had hoped that perhaps one of the suggestions would be useful. Not even dibl's top 20 #2?

I've had the same problem with both live CD and installation showing either a black screen or looping. My feeling is that they are related because it seems to be dependent on the machine. I think you're right in looking at the video. BTW, perhaps the boot menu option was "noacpi"? Anyway, other (and smarter) people will hopefully have the right answer.

          Thank you!

I don't remember exactly what was the option on ubuntu's LiveCD.
          Mabe it was "noacpi".

Anyway. I've tried to check the "noacpi" option and it did the same.

          Thanx for trying to help

            Well,
When "noacpi" option is checked the LiveCD is loaded.
But after I've installed the Kubuntu on my laptop - it gets stuck while loading.
            What does "noacpi" is doing?
How can I load the installed version of Kubuntu with "noacpi" from my grub2 boot menu?

            tyvm!

Re: Problem loading kubuntu 10.04 LiveCD

"noacpi" turns off the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface at boot time. This means features associated with this are turn off.

You can add kernel options like noacpi to your grub menu.

To add this to your grub menu you need to edit the file /etc/default/grub and look for

              GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

add this line just below it

              GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="noacpi"

You must then run "sudo update-grub" in a terminal to make the changes take effect. This needs to be done from your install so reboot and hold down the "shift" key during boot. This should bring up the grub menu, select the default boot line (usually the top one), add your "noacpi" option and then boot. This should get you running from your install. Then do the above edits.

Suggestion: Once you have your system booting, do some web searching research on your motherboard or chipset or whatever computer you're using (since you didn't give us any information in your first post) and try and figure out what part of your system is causing the hang. Often, a bios update or some other boot option that works will be revealed, rather than disabling acpi altogether.

                Thanx alot for your reply
I truely hope I will be able to do that.

I am using LG E310 laptop and don't know much about it.

Can't I just work with "noacpi" option turned on? how will it effect my daily work on the laptop?

(sorry if i didn't understand something you've already said...)

You can but you wont have power management, cpu scaling...

Re: Problem loading kubuntu 10.04 LiveCD

The only thing that is written on my laptop is:

                    Manufaturer: LG
                    Model: LGE23
                    Config: E310
                    Input: 18.5V ____ 3.5A
                    - - -

How can I know what BIOS version do I have?
How can I know what motherboard do I have?
Should I open my laptop physically?
                    BTW,
I've just noticed that with that option checked, I can't connect to any wired or wireless with my Kubuntu.

I've tried other distribustions and the problem also appears (only with the last KDE version) and in some of them, checking only the "no acpi" option still doesn't work.
in Kubuntu also it happens that some times I check that option and still it won't work.

                    !!!!! HATE THAT COMPUTER !!!!!
