    alternate or desktop?

    can someone plz put light on this..
    what is the difference between alternate cd and desktop cd?

    asus A52N
    Dual boot: Kubuntu 11.10 64bit, Ubuntu 11.10 64bit
    AMD Athlon II 64 X2 | 4 GB DDR3 RAM | ATI Radeon HD 4200
    windoze free since 2009 12 16 (Vijay din= Victory day)

    The 'desktop' is the LiveCD. The Alternate is not. The LiveCD allows you to 'try' before you 'buy - install'. The Alternate is an 'install now' CD.

        Also, it looked to me like Wubi is only on the 'desktop' CD

          There's a couple of other differences: The alternate installer is text based rather than graphical for one.

          The main reason I know of to use the alternate is if you need RAID and/or LVM support during the install.

          I use a RAID0 partition for my OS so I always use the alternate to install.

            The Alternate CD has a lot more packages on the CD itself -- that what fills the space left by omitting the KDE desktop GUI.
