Re: Wicd not recognizing my Password or able to Get IP Address on unsecured Network

After doing all of the above I am still getting the bad password problem. Sometimes it says, "Cannot contact the wireless access point."

    What can I try now?

Then you may actually have a bad password. Hold the reset button in the back of your wireless router down for at least 15 seconds to restore an open wireless, use FireFox to connect to 192.168.1.1 (or what ever IP address your wireless docs say to use), and redo your security, being extra careful entering the password.

OK, I fixed it by following one of the earlier suggestions I had missed:

        I had to run

        sudo apt-get purge network-manager

in a terminal just to be sure it has absolutely been uninstalled.
