Peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America

Has anybody seen this? A number of US States are wanting to withdraw from the Union. A lot is going on right now, who knows what to expect. The main stream media is keeping really quiet.

The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.

I also read somewhere that this same idea popped up after the 2004 and 2008 elections (although it didn't say what states were involved in those years). I think it is just people unhappy that their preferred candidate wasn't elected and they are acting out anyway they can.

This is just random people (or bots lol) signing an online petition. it is NOT a State, I saw a news story on this the other proclaiming that "x number of states have petitioned to secede", and it is far from the truth. Look at a lot of other petitions and how many "votes" they get.

I understand the feeling, but there is no way the federal government is going to let any states secede. Look at the numbers, so Texas has 85,000 signatures, last I checked the states population is quite larger than that. Also, some of those signatures are from people in other states (probably those hoping to get rid of Texas), which IMHO shouldn't count. I could be wrong, but you would have to have a hell of a lot more people calling for it for a secession to happen. And if it did, the feds aren't going to allow for free trade with Texas, it would be treated much like Iran I would assume. Regardless, hopefully all these people signing those petitions got out to vote, because if they didn't, I don't feel sorry for them.

Here I totally agree, these measures will definitely lead to a confrontation between the federal government and the states on exactly what "rights" and "powers" the states have. I for one thing these type of rules belong at the state level, the federal government should only be charge with our protection and some finances that involve the overall health of the country.

I think Texas should be allowed out of the Union as quickly as possible. Then, we could make Puerto Rico a state instead. I doubt even Mexico would want Texas anymore considering who lives there. At least the Puerto Ricans want to participate in what goes on. Texans are egotistical morons who want the rest of us to do things their way. Texas was a great state 120 years ago. Now, they're just embarrassing. Texas is so eager to execute people that they continually uphold the death penalty even though they know they execute innocent people all the time. Most the the executed are black so I guess that makes it OK in their minds. Oklahoma is worse in this regard, but they aren't as proud of it. Sorry to all the Texans on here that are offended by this opinion, but you choose to live there, so tough. Good luck on your own.

If Texas wants to bail, I'd be in favor of that. I think the US flag would look mighty fine with 49 stars. Seven rows and seven columns, wonderfully symmetrical. Although, come to think of it, you're right: let's keep the number of stars at 50, and let PR in.

As of this post, 93,981 people have signed the petition. In 2011, the population of Texas was 25,674,681. So 0.37% of the people in Texas have signed an online petition to leave the US. Call me back when more than 25% of the people in Texas sign the petition and the state government gets on board. If that happens, I say let them go.

Robtygart, your profile says that you are from Spokane, Washington which, as of 2011, had a population of around 210,000 people. 0.37% of 210,000 is 777 people. Thats one neighborhood.

In the extremely unlikely event that Texas does leave, the members of the US armed forces who are from Texas would probably join some sort of Texas military.

As for the small amount of votes, they will only need 20 thousand votes to get a response, this isn't a silly forums poll. I don't know if any of you have looked at some of the reasons why they want out, you should look.

Things get changed just by people speaking out.

Its like Microsoft you can hope it gets better with the next version, or you can get to gether with people and start your own.
