Call for testing - Plasma 5.8.4 and applications 16.04.3 for Xenial Xerus

The kubuntu team is pleased to have packages for testing in our

    https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+...kports-landing

    ppa

These packages represent a significant update in Qt, plasma and applications versions over the default 16.04 versions, so please if you decide those test then be prepared that you might get a breakage or 2.

    All feedback is appreciated.

I would also like to thank Clem from Linux Mint, who is partnering us with testing these updates

well ,,,,,my Kubuntu-16.04 got taken over with with the Neon-/dev/stable repo ,,,,and I am running plasma-5.8.4 KDE frameworks-5.29.0 and Qt-5.7.0 now ...

But I guess I could wipe the Netrunner install in the BTRFS drive install 16.04 and help test the Plasma-5.8.4 their .

will work on it later today-tomorrow as time permits .

I think that I must be jinxed as I have updated both my Yakkety systems to Plasma 5.8.4 and I am still having trouble with System Settings > Display and Monitor > Compositor > Enable compositor on startup. It still only lets me choose "Instant" or "Very slow". The settings in between cannot be selected.

This is the same problem that I reported on Zesty.

Now moved to the Kubuntu Backports ppa.

If you have any issues, please report back. They have been tested, but as with all sofware updates, bugs may still exist that only get picked up when the release becomes more widespread.

As well as the problem with the Compositor that I reported previously and is present on all systems with Plasma 5.8.4, I have found another problem with an ASUS F3Jr that has an ATI Radeon X2300 graphic system.

The problem is that a right mouse click on the desktop does not give any menu options. Also, left and centre mouse clicks give no response.

I have noticed that KDE Frameworks 5.29 has been released at https://www.kde.org/announcements/kd...rks-5.29.0.php. So I am inclined to wait and see if these problems are fixed after this is available for installation.
