Strange boot message - error no symbol table

    Hi

I have a strange boot error message, possibly coming from grub. The boot up stalls and says "error no symbol table" then "press any key to continue......".

When I press any key, the computer continues to boot, apparently normally. This is on a fresh re-install of 16.10. I have tried running "sudo update-grub" but that didn't help.

I never saw this on the same computer on 16.04 or earlier.

Anyone else, or is it just me?

I eventually realised my problem was all my fault. It so happens I have 3 hard drives in my PC. The one with kubuntu on it is set as the first boot drive in the bios. However, to the kernel this drive is /dev/sdb (not sda) so I during install I put grub on the wrong hard drive. Kubuntu was booting from an old grub boot sector, hence the error message.
