    KDE 3.5.4 for Kubuntu

KDE 3.5.4, the latest release of the popular K Desktop Environment, is now available for Kubuntu.

    http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-354.php

NOTE: The announcement is now officially out, so it's presumably safe to upgrade now.

Thanks for the news. A question though: am I the only one who lost the antialiased fonts right after the upgrade ? Thanks !

Ok, this is weird. Logging out of KDE and then loggin in again fixed the problem ! Antialiased fonts are back

Well, usually after a KDE upgrade, you're supposed to log out and back in to make some changes take effect. Usually...

I wonder what's causing the KAudioCreator problem...

Cool!! New MIME types for .torrent files! Nice icons for it, too!

I remember seeing yesterday a README file on the mirrors saying that the packages broke /etc/kderc somehow so it was not recommended to upgrade right now.

Today, these README packages are gone. Does this mean that it's okay to upgrade now since the packages have been recompiled and fixed?

          Thanks.

Yep. I actually didn't mention it, but I did a full reboot right after the upgrade, and before the first login (the one with the screwed fonts). The reason was that I got a kernel upgrade together with the kde packages.

BTW, in the last KDE upgrade (3.5.3) I lost the small icons in the system tray that the original 3.5.2 had (and I loved). Anone knows how to restore them ? Jucato ?

              Thanks !

Could you specify what those "small icons" were?

I'm just guessing here but: right-click panel > Add Applet to Panel > System Tray ?

I think he means that at one point the system tray had two rows of icons in the same amount of space (ie each icon was half the size it normally is with one row).  With older versions of KDE (around 3.5.2-3.5.3 i think) I had the problem that on login it would be two rows, then it would "magically" switch itself to one row of big icons at some point.  I never did figure out how to make it use the small icons, but I never truly put any effort into looking lol.

Ah I see. Try setting the panel size to custom 48. It's the smallest panel size that has 2 rows for the system tray. IIRC before KDE 3.5.2, the Normal panel size still had 2 rows for the system tray.

I think I owe you a beer, this worked like a charm ! The icons are a bit large (larger than in the quick launcher, for instance). But hey ! The whole point was to group them in two rows, as you guessed from my post.

                      Thanks a lot !

No problem! Glad I could help.

Once I switched it to Custom @ 48pi it did the whole thing where on login where it starts adding icons to the tray in two rows, then magically switched to one row again after about 10 seconds.

                          thanks,

                              Travis,

Have you tried adjusting Icon sizes in System Settings -> Appearance ?
