KDEWALLET won't open

Hi all, I have an issue with kde wallet. I am running kubuntu 16.04LTS with plasma 5.5.5 and recently KDEWallet started malfunctioning, when I open systems settings and launch kde wallet configuration, kde wallet is enabled including showing the icon in sys tray (which it does not) and when I click on "launch wallet manager" it launches the small gui window but the dialog says "the wallet is currently closed" and when I click on the "open" button nothing happens...I have read another kdeforums post (link below) that you need to reset kwallet, I have tried as suggested in the article but I get error messages....any idea how to fix this? thanks

managed to solve the problem by creating a "new" wallet and migrating passwords there......
