    A few questions from a more-or-less newbie

I've switched from micro$oft window$ to kubuntu 5.10 about a month ago. I've not had that meany problems but there are some questions

    1. Any sort of 3D or 2D gameing is VERY slow. I'm useing a dual head configuration with an ATi RADEON 9600. I have my driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf set to "radeon". I was easaly able to run 3D and 2D applactions in Windows...

2.when I right click on Kmix and click mute. It does not mute. The volume slider still works and i'm useing an auto-detected Creatave Sound Blaster Audagy 2 ZS.

    3. my amaroK is buggy. It has a tendancy to crash every so oftern...

    4. When I quit KDE to shutdown or logoff sometimes(not always) it will throw up a crash handler dialog. Sometimes It also puts up an error saying something like "Prosses could not start, cannot talk to Klauncher" after I click close on the crash handeler. It sometimes displays 2 error boxes that I have to click though. This does not happen every time, and this has never happened at any other time then when i've shut down KDE.

    5. How do I install GNOME. I selected most of the pakages in Synaptic but when I choose to launch into it in the KDM logon it frezes

    6. Is there or is there planed to be a configuration utility for usplash? I don't care if it's grapical or command line. I can use the command line, I can move around the file system and can use sudo to preform commands as root and stuff and I was able to install the 1.5RC1 version of Firefox.

I think that was it... any help would be appreciated!

I can't help but notice you said 5.10. Try 6.06 Dapper or 6.10 Edgy. I personally like Dapper. Ther have been many advancements since Hoary. I have Dapper 6.06 and ATI Radeon 9600 SE and video is ok. Not much into gaming but Kubuntu and VMWare windowsXP both are snappy.
