when i run the installer

when i run the installer and click on manually create partition then the unformatted primary partition(10 Gb)is shown to be hidden and i am not able to create the required partitions.what should i do?
shall i format it using windows and reformat it as ext3 in kubuntu?

That actually sounds like a good plan if:
(a) You're sure of the identity of the partition that is hidden. Some computer manufacturers leave a compressed image of the system software, as shipped, in a hidden partition at the end of the hard drive. Then when you call tech support they give you a magic incantation that restores the system to it's as new state. OR
(b) You're using a third party Partitioner, like Acronis or Partition Magic and NOT the M$ partitioner which doesn't confuse users with technicalities like Primary and Extended Partitions. AND
(c) You back up everything on your windoze partitions that you aren't willing to lose.
