Hi. As I made a move to the beta version 26.04 of Kubuntu, I wanted to share that the GrayJay app that used to work perfectly on Kubuntu 25.04 now opens with a frozen screen and nothing happens, no error message, so it can be useful to consider to improve the system. Unfortunately as a beginner I'm not sure what info I should provide to help tackle this issue, just tell me what I have to share here, thanks in advance.

(I don't know what GrayJay is or does.)
I suggest trying to run it in a konsole, if you are not already. If you are running it from the menu, right-click the menu, choose Edit Applications, and find the command and arguments for it. The command is likely /usr/bin/flatpak but the arguments will be something longer. These are, for my Signal flatpak,
run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=signal-desktop --file-forwarding org.signal.Signal @@u %U @@
Put the command and the arguments into a konsole, to see error messages about what is going wrong.Regards, John Little

You may need to see if GrayJay knows about this, but since 26.04 is not released yet, they may not be aware of any issues.,
Was it working in 25.10?
You also may want to try starting it from the command line so you can see what the errors are. You may just be missing a package or something like that.Self-built: Asus PRIME B550M-K/Ryzen 5600GT/32Gb/Intel ARC B580 12Gb/KDE neon

Dear Claydoh, GrayJay seem to be aware of this issue as they were working on a fix as I searched about it, although I did not understand everything I read, and the flatpak package actually worked beautifully in Kubuntu 25.04 but the issue started with my upgrade to Kubuntu 26.04, which is interesting for the community and the testing of this beta kernel. That's why I posted. It was preinstalled until I upgraded. I also uninstalled it actually and reinstalled it to check whether it would help but with the same result. I pasted above the log file and info about the error. A gray screen for the grayjay Thanks a lot for your helpOriginally posted by claydoh View PostYou may need to see if GrayJay knows about this, but since 26.04 is not released yet, they may not be aware of any issues.,

Have you tried their actual download, not the Flatpak?
If the Flatpak has a problem, then it isn't an issue with Kubuntu, or any distro, most likely.

Yes I have also installed their download file but it gave the same result. I downloaded it then unzipped it and understood I can run the grayjay file directly as it is an executive file, but I'm not sure it's the correct way to do it. I don't know how you determine if the problem is in the flatpak itself as a newbie but I believe you of course. I just opened the post because GrayJay worked perfectly with Kubuntu kernel 25.04 and stopped working as soon as I installed 26.04, so I'm not sure what it means. If anything else I'm glad to try anything. Thanks for your help.Originally posted by claydoh View Post

Technically, as the download and the flatpak are both self-contained (and probably are identical in terms of the contents), they *should* act the same, I'd guess. But worth a shot.
The flatpak will use flatpak-specific runtimes for some video related libraries, which are likley different from what may be in the download version, if thatyv isn't using the OS supplied ones.
What is needed is to run this from the terminal to see if there are any errors, which may point to the cause, but the log here is not showing any problems.
I am not seeing any problems like this on their github issue tracker, but I may be missing reports that you are seeing. Links?
I use grayjay, but not on the desktop, it has been far too buggy for me in the past, which is saying a lot
But the flatpak loads and plays for me on 26.04 here on my old i5 mini PC from 2017, upgraded yesterday from 24.04, so I can't help in direct troubleshooting too much.
Did you upgrade from 25.04 (End of Life since January) directly to 26.04? I wonder if it is possible that the EOL state had an effect here?
You probably still need to defer to the grayjay devs for any debugging steps to show more info. We can help decipher things if they are confusing.Last edited by claydoh; Yesterday, 08:42 PM.Self-built: Asus PRIME B550M-K/Ryzen 5600GT/32Gb/Intel ARC B580 12Gb/KDE neon

I'm not sure they bring any help to our topic but they seem to be related to it. I myself come from using Windows since it actually exist. Not a technical person but enough to survive. I've become truly enthralled at the Linux option and this time I just took the risk to erase my whole Windows system to move to Kubuntu and yes I jumped immediately to the 26.04 kernel even if I've just been 1-2 weeks on Linux. Living dangerously. I love the more pragmatic and organized spirit in Linux although I can't appreciate it as a programmer or hacker of course. It takes some time to unlearn every mania we learned with Windows.I love it because I hate being trapped in pseudo comfy environment that slowly removed any ability to configure anything with the pretext it's easier or more comfortable. I can see now also how Linux has got an ideal of the academic Linux school to do build apps that work correctly in the Linux environment, but there are yet lots of apps that Windows users have been using successfully and that one is trying to implement into Linux and this creates a fragmentation as an army of distros. Usually cross insemination is good for progress but things are always happening too fast and chaotically. Mostly technical people can appreciate this properly. I'm more of an artist, using more the other side of the brains and I have a hard time to learn technical stuff. But it's a good exercise.
Yes I believe GrayJay has been buggy although the one I tried in kernel 25.04 it seemed to have quite a thorough set of configurations. Everything is done on the fly nowadays. I will open a ticket in GrayJay. It was my intention but I didn't open an account yet. Is it so? In the next post I will show my log after opening GrayJay in the terminal.
