Can't get Kubuntu to boot on HP x360 laptop

I've been trying to move from Win 11 to Kubuntu 25.10 for a few days with no luck.

I can boot off a live USB with Kubuntu but not able to boot off the HD. I am able to load Ubuntu on the HD and boot via F9 boot menu, but not without going through the menu.

When I try to boot off the HD with either Kubuntu or Ubuntu it just goes to a black screen. The last thing I've tried is to dual partition Ubuntu and Kubuntu, but no luck booting from either one now.

I've disabled the secure disk and RAID in the bios and tried about every possible setting.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Gary

One more piece of info, I tried another re-partition and install, after hitting F9 to the boot menu, I got a flash of "unknown file system" before it went to the menu to select to boot from the USB (eg Try or Install Kubuntu)

Have you tried turning off secure boot in your bios, it can sometimes interfere with nvidia drivers.

      Yes, I've turned that off.

I've also from the F9 boot menu, I've selected Boot from EFI file. Then there are 3 options (1TB internal drive, usb drive and 27G internal drive), if I select the 1TB drive, then <EFI>, <ubuntu>, grubx64.efi. This will boot ubuntu. I've tried it with kubuntu, but then I just get a blank screen again.
