    [RESOLVED] Make control bars transparent?

I recently installed Kubuntu KDE Plasma on my PC and am very happy with this operating system.

But I have a question. Is it possible to make the control bars transparent?

In the control bar settings, you can set the opacity to “transparent,” but this does not work. See screenshot:

While it should be enabled by default, check System Settings > Display & Monitor > Compositor to ensure that Enable on startup is checked.

It is also possible, that under Plasma (Wayland) with your GPU, Transparency may be problematic. Plasma (X11) isn't installed by default in Kubuntu 25.10, but can be installed. Open a Konsole and run: sudo apt update && sudo apt install plasma-session-x11. Afterwards, logout of your Desktop Session and log back in, choosing Plasma (X11).

Snowhog Thanks for your help, but I don't have a “Compositor” setting under System Settings > Display & Monitor.

Did you install plasma-session-x11 and logout and select Plasma (X11) and log back in?

"Wayland to X11 Video Bridge" (xwaylandvideobridge) is a utility to help X11 apps (like Discord, Teams) share their windows on Wayland by streaming them as video, bridging compatibility gaps for screen sharing, as native Wayland support for these apps is still developing.

                  Good to know.

I've only just understood the part about logging out and selecting Plasma (X11).

What can I set now in the Compositor? See screnshot

On my Kubuntu 25.10 install (laptop), both Compositing items are checked, and Only for Shown Windows is selected for Keep window thumbnails

I kindly asked how one can move this volume display from the centre of the screen to the bottom right of the screen.

That will be a nope. At least not without a hack or poor workaround.

                            There is a solution:

I installed the Panel Colouriser mini programme and activated Preset 34 "Transparent"
