Kubuntu 25.10 Beta - Clean Install To Desktop - Black Screen - nVidia GPU ?

    Hi,

I installed Kubuntu 25.10 Beta on my desktop just now.
At the end of the installation there is an error?
(something like Installation could not complete)

When booting 25.10 Beta, I get a completely black desktop with the mouse cursor shown?
Running an nVidia RTX 3060 12GB GPU.

Any workaround for the above issue?
Let me know, I am back on 25.04.

A black screen with cursor might mean a Plasmashell crash. If you get krunner when hitting alt-space or alt-f2, then you can use that to open applications like Discover or Konsole, try to update your system to pull in anything missing.

You might also try restarting Plasmashell from krunner by entering plasmashell --replace

You can also hit ctrl-alt-f3 (or f4,5, etc) to switch to a tty where you can log in and try updating from there.

      Sorry...

Will nVidia GPU's with nVidia proprietary Linux display driver be working in the official release on October 10th?

Not good with terminal stuff - Just hoping I can clean install kubuntu 25.10 to my desktop and boot into a desktop with an nVidia GPU....

So using krunner doesn't work here, to try restarting Plasmashell Or to open Discover (to update the system), System Settings (for the driver manager).

It is very possible that the problem has nothing to do with Nvidia -- the error at the end of the installation could be anything.

If you do try installing again, you can view the actual output, so you can see any messages, and the error popup often has a button to show more as well.

I don't recall there ever being a release that didn't have support from Nvidia.
