Default to Open New Window in Dolphin

I am trying to migrate to Linux from Microsoft and mostly, it's going well. However, I am very used to a feature in Windows file manager which allows me to default to opening folders in a new window.
Dolphin seams to imply that this is possible with the "Keep a single Dolphin window, opening new folders in tabs" tickbox. I would assume that unticking this would give me the result I require, but whether it's ticked or not, double-clicking on a folder within a window just replaces the window contents with the new folder contents. I have searched your forums for a solution but I'm surprised you appear not to have been asked before. Am I missing something?

if you right click on a folder or one of the saved places in the panel you will be offered a context menu where you can open in a new window, the default for just clicking on a folder (or double clicking) it to open the folder in the current tab or open a new tab if none are open.

you can also set a keyboard shortcut for open in a new window

but the default behavior of the unmodified mouse click is to open the folder in the same window.

many of your usual windows workflows often need to be adjusted for working in linux
