Kubuntu icons-only taskbar mute toggle icon

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. I'm on the latest version of Kubuntu (fresh install) and the little mute program icon on the taskbar is infuriating! I've seen that there used to be an option to disable that, but I can't find any details about whether it's still possible to get rid of it? Other than seeing it was at some point removed, with some people saying it was supposed to return around 4 months~ ago. Hoping someone might know!

If you are referring to the Speaker icon in the System Tray, yes, you can remove it (don't show it). Right-click on the up arrow (Show hidden icons). Click on Configure System Tray... Click on Entries. Under Hardware Control change Audio Volume to either Always hidden or Disabled. Click Apply and then OK.
Windows no longer obstruct my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Ah not that one I don't think. My explanation was probably awful, but I've included a picture of what I mean. Been digging around for a little while now and not come across any concrete / obvious way to disable this, unless I'm missing something super obvious but as far as I know, it used to be icons-only task manager settings before it was removed.

Okay. So, when you are streaming with audio via Firefox, the speaker icon appears on the Firefox icon. I believe it shows to let you know that audio is streaming, even if you have sound muted.

Yeah, my biggest issue with it is that pressing that icon also mutes the audio and a few times now I've caught it by accident, especially for an app like Discord where it's not quite as easy to see so I thought there must be a way to just get rid of / hide the icon?

I believe there is; It involves some tweaking of Firefox. Haven’t tried it yet. I will shortly and report back.

From what I read in another forum or Reddit post, this has been removed at some point for some unknown reason. I've been trying to find if it's been moved somewhere else but I'm struggling tbh. Unless I really am just missing something that's right in-front of me lol:

Uncheck Use audio indicators to mute tasks

Works. This removes the Mute button from the icon.

                    it was never removed.

It is just an unfortunate lack of clarity with the wording for the option, which is imo still a touch more clear bit less unclear in Plasma 6.3 than it is in Plasma 5, but is much more clear in 6.4 (coming in Kubuntu 25.10):

One can have the icon but not the click-to-mute, even.

I'll be darned. Reading this. I have same issue BUT I now see this is for 25.04.
But I do see your comments for 24.04: mark applications that play audio
There is only that ONE option in the older version, but helpful!

The Icons-Only Task Manager Settings shown in post #8 is exactly what mine looks like in my 25.04 on my laptop. I don't have what claydoh is showing.

No indication that the 'mark' does anything, like mute/unmute

                          6.3:

Just what is an indicator, then? But we know it can mute!!

                          6.4:

heh that was a slight bit of snark, on the slight lack of clarity. To a normie, what is an indicator, other than blinking lights on a vehicle?
