How to get a configure new displays dialog to pop up when connecting external screens in KDE / Kubuntu?

    • The version/release of Kubuntu you are using. - 25.04
    • Whether Kubuntu is actually installed, or is running "live" from a bootable USB Flash Drive or LiveCD. - installed bare metal
    • If Kubuntu is installed, is it the only OS on the PC, or is it installed alongside another OS (Windows or ...) or is it installed in a VM (Virtual Machine)? - running on bare metal alongside Windows 10, Debian 12, Mint 22.1, Tuxedo OS, MX Linux
    • The version of KDE Plasma installed. - 6.3.4
    • Open a konsole and type: inxi -F --xxx
    Code:
    $ inxi -F --xxx
    Error 22: Unsupported option: --xxx
    Check -h for correct useage.
In XFCE there is an app called xfce4-display-settings that has a switch in it to turn on the popping up of a dialog to configure display settings when an external monitor is plugged in. The settings that dialog allows are for example, to use only the laptop screen, use only the external display, mirror them, extend the screen to the right onto the external display. See "Configure new displays when connected" section at: https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/display for a picture of what the dialog looks like.

This Configure new displays dialog also pops up when I press Function-F10 on the keyboard so that I can change the screen layout. This enables me to change the configuration after I have connected the external display.

Is there a similar app in KDE plasma, and if so, what is it called and how can I configure it to pop up whenever an external display is plugged in, or when i press the display config key (Fn-F10) on the keyboard?

Tuxedo OS has such a dialog enabled but I cannot find one in Kubuntu (maybe there is one but I am a newbie so I don't know how to enable it).

It would be very useful to people who bring a laptop to different places and connect to screens and projectors for presentations.

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

Additional info that I have found that may help someone help me:

Kubuntu does have a similar dialog to XFCE's one that can be enabled in XFCE via xfce4-display-settings. On Kubuntu 25.04 it is found in 2 places:

    1. Clicking the up arrow icon in the system tray opens a Status and Notifications dialog, within which there is a Display Configuration option that opens the desired dialog. However, what I want is for this dialog to appear when I press the screen config button on my laptop keyboard (Fn-F10, same on most laptops).

    2. Right-click on the desktop, select Enter Edit Mode, click Add or Manage Widgets in the top left, find a widget called Display Configuration, and the desired dialog gets added to the desktop. However this is constantly displayed even when it is not needed so it is not a solution

This reddit comment notes that the command "kcmshell6 kcm_kscreen" can be run to open a screen dialog. However the dialog it opens is not the one that i want. It is to set the screen resolution, not the one to set mirroring or extend the screen etc.
