    [Installation] 18.04 install

I am trying to install on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. The window appears asking to test or install but neither are active. Details below.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RS780M [Mobility Radeon HD 3200] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

    AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual-Core QL-64 × 2

    Is it the graphics card?

    Many thanks

Forgot to add the usb stick runs fine on my Dell Laptop

Switch the renderer to XRender in compositor setting. That seems to have helped some people affected by this bug.

Thank you for the reply. How do I switch the renderer?

System Settings --> Display and Monitor --> Compositor --> Rendering back end
        It's probably set on GPL2 or 3.1.
        Choose XRender
        Left click the "Apply" button.
        Try out the controls.

Sorry I didn't make things quite clear.

I am trying to run from the iso, on a usb stick. The initial boot works and then the window comes up with the two options to run or install, nothing on that window is active and I have to hold down the power button to exit. I have tried Mint KDE on the same laptop and that is fine.

On my Dell that window is active and I can run from the usb.

Some Toshiba's can be tricky to work with in linux - could you give us the exact model? are you booting in UEFI?

              Satellite-L450D

Sorry don't know what UEFI is.

Linux Mint KDe runs from the usb and installs without problem.

Which version of Kubuntu are you trying to install? Since mint has dropped KDE on Mint 19. I suspect that you installed 18.3. which is based on Ubuntu 16.04 so it is perhaps a kernel issue with a newer kernel. You may want to try install Kubuntu 16.04 and see how that goes.

Yes you were right 16.04 runs fine so must be a kernel problem with 18.04
