    Freakin' Icons won't go away

    <rant>
    I HATE THIS!
    </rant>

    Recently I saw an article about an alternative icon set named 'Crystal Remix' which claimed to apply the older Gnome 3 style 3D desktop icons instead of the boring, flat icons that are 'fashionable now. So I checked Discover and sure enough, Crystal Remix was there - and I installed it.

    What a mistake! The article said there may be a few icons missing from the set - YEAH. I opened Dolphin and 90 percent of the icons were invisible! No problem, thought I. I'll just remove this mistake. Now, Discover says, Not Installed but the crappy icon set remains! Dang! Plasma is very configurable but when stuff like this happens I am prone to not mess with anything since it stops me cold and I have to cry for help.

    Do I need to (re)install some default Neon icon set? No luck so far looking for one.

    I feel like such a noob. That's why I posted here.

    You may want to purge Crystal-Remix to make sure its all gone.
    Then, I'd reinstall
    breeze
    breeze-icon-theme
    breeze-cursor-theme
    and then reboot.

      Thanks GreyGeek. Sometimes I get rattled and need to take a time-out! I tried again just before I noticed your post and used System Settings, Icons. All I had for most of System Settings was the labels to show where I should click. In the Icons dialog I simply clicked on one of the alternative Themes and the Defaults button lighted up. Then I clicked back to my default Breeze theme and clicked on the Apply button. Whew, back to normal!

      It really does discourage me from experimenting when seemingly "normal" configuration changes get me into trouble. I'm going to just leave things alone for awhile.

      Thanks for the quick reply!

        I tried putting [SOLVED] in the title of this topic and the system would not let me. It complains about illegal characters. What is it about [SOLVED] that is illegal? Humph!

          Use the "Go Advanced" edit mode. On that page is a combo box which contains various prefixes.

              I just found this article on OCS-Mag: (boldface is mine):

              Then, Plasma also allows you to install various aesthetic addons – icons, themes, fonts, decorations. This is done using built-in system wizards. Alas, this part of the desktop framework is rather messy. We’ve seen that in my Plasma 5.12 LTS review. If you want to install a new theme, there’s a 63% chance you will end up with a dud; either it won’t install at all, or it will silently fail after it’s supposedly configured. There does not seem to be any strict convention on packaging, and you need a bit of luck to get around. Still, the important thing is that the desktop provides for an extensible framework that lets you customize the system look & feel without manual work.

                Because you are not looking in the right place.
                Click the "Edit" button underneath your original post (#1). In the edit mode click the "Go Advanced" button at lower right.
                Now, in the advanced edit mode scroll to the top. Near the title text box is a dropdown combo box with several options related to what you want to do. One is "Solved". Select it and then click the "Submit Reply" button at the bottom of the edit mode area, beneath the "Post Icons:" Icons.

                  Here is a cropped screen shot - no such combo box.

                    To mark a thread as solved, click on Thread Tools above the most recent post and select Mark this thread as solved...

                      Well, I even tried changing the Forum theme in order to see the Thread Tools but no luck. Exploring further... I DID find it, but not when editing nor advanced editing. It only occurs above the very first post in the thread. At least for me.

                        You don't see the options as shown in this image?

                          That's where I found it, above post #1.
                          I recall Snowhog mentioning "Thread tools" in times past but I couldn't recall where he said it was. Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.

                            My goodness. I am getting to be a curmudgeon. It seems like little things upset me these days. Sorry guys for trying your patience. I was following directions, looking for the combo box - while editing - which didn't work. Now I know where that sucker is located. I think we are finally done here. Thanks again.

                              Well, now I've lost it. The spot at the lower right that Snowhog pointed out does NOT include and option to add anything to the subject line. And, neither does the spot I knew about previously.

                              EDIT- Never mind. Found it again.
