[Internet] Kubuntu 16.04 WiFi doesn't work

Hey, new to Kubuntu 16.04 (somewhat familiar with 13.10). My old laptop went down, so I got a new one, Lenovo V310 and after getting rid of Windows, I installed Kubuntu 16.04 which I was recommended. Things are much different from the 13.10 and I really need some help, need the laptop running to finish my dissertation ASAP.
WiFi doesn't work at all, can't even check the box for it. Where I currently am, I have no option to do a wire connection, using someone else's computer to ask about this, so I can't even spend much time looking for the solution, as the other person needs his computer too. Can anyone please recommend a quick fix for this?
    Thanks!!!

P.S. in the short time it had windows, it was able to connect to the wifi, so technically it should be ok.

The real issue at the moment, for you, is that you will need a wired connection to the Internet in order to get wireless properly installed/configured.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

There are several versions of the V310 and they have different firmware chips. What does lspci tell you about the specific wifi chip (or, use lswh)?

One ideapad uses the QC9377 chip and a known bug prevents it from working properly. If that is your chip then perhaps a cheap USB wifi dongle will get you connected until the bug is resolved.

What USB Wi-Fi adapter did you get?

I had to find and install a driver for my USB-AC53 Nano.

It appears that I have to reinstall it after every kernel update.

                  @WaltS48

Do you have the package dkms installed?

                  dkms (Dynamic Kernel Module Support)

                    Yes.

Is that supposed to maintain the adapter driver when a Linux kernel updates?

Possibly, but not guaranteed to do so. If it would, it would have done so.

I found the solution to my problem yesterday. The very least reply on that page has a command that seems to work for me:

So, with wifi working, I was finally able to start using the new computer. Just to find out that it won't play audio or video files either. Both Amarok and Dragon do nothing. Here comes some more time waste to fix that.
Is there some kind of conspiracy going on lately, to make people hate Kubunbtu? I loved the 13.10. Why is the 16.04 so crappy in everything??

Thanks, I'll see if that works. I had to switch to my old laptop that I managed to get working again (somewhat) and leave the new one alone, untill I'm done with my writing. Several evenings I got stuck on some problem and instead of adding the text I need to publish soon, I was googling for some help. I believe I'll get to like the new machine and the new OS once it's all set and working, but it was quite a bummer to have that and nothing else, tons of work to do with it and nothing seemed to run properly.
I still need to find out how to make the original function keys and key combinations work (so far none of the F keys seem to work, except of screen brightness on F11 and 12, that is supposed to work with the Fn key but works by itself...
