[Graphics] How do I get the equal sign on the keyboard to result in an equal sign ...

... inputted rather than a green disk around the pointer?

Using Kubuntu 22.04. UK keyboard. Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000.

A solution would be much appreciated. I would like to be able to type an equal sign.

"green"? Not sure about that; I use system settings, workspace behaviour, desktop effects, "Track Mouse" to help me find the cursor when I've lost it across several screens with forests of windows, and maybe you've got its shortcut set to "=", but that's not green.

Maybe check system settings, input devices, keyboard, layouts tab.

A weird factoid, my work Lenovo laptop has two equals keys...

There's various ways to map another key to equals. I use X11 and xmodmap, and for Wayland there's other methods, like xremap.

At the moment, I can only get the equals key by pressing the meta key before the equals key. Have they been switched around? Would normally meta plus equals show the pointer?

I restarted Kubuntu 22.04, logged in and it had gone. Now it is back. The green disc of annoyance if not death.

This normally would zoom the desktop in.
meta-minus zooms out, and meta-0 goes back to normal.

What keyboard hardware selection, and layout (if any) are selected in System Settings? Any other desktop environments installed, or potentially relevant mouse utilities, screen recording software?

That green dot thing is definitely NOT from KDE.
But maybe check if there is one of the cursor related Desktop Effects enabled in System Settings, maybe?

Also, do any other keyboards you may have exhibit the same behavior?

Thank you; you've jogged my memory. It's vokoscreen which is the cause. The issue is now solved.
