Tiny 3.5mm jack microphone not working as intended

It is being detected as a headphone and nothing to the microphone, my theory is that it is because it has 3 pins in the jack unlike the 2 which i was made aware that is for microphones, it works normally on my phone.

"Most" (all?) jack ports on a PC are specific to what will be plugged in. A microphone jack port is designed for microphones. A headset jack is designed for headsets. That isn't the case with mobile phones, which will (always?) have just one 'universal' jack, useable for 'combo' headset/microphone setups.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007
