Brand new to Linux. I have searched many hours and cannot find how to get the backlight to my keyboard to work. It flashes at startup, but I cannot get it to come on during use.

I tried to sign up with my .live email, and it said I was blocked. Not too sure what that is about? Tried sending message to admin and I was allowed to do that either.

    Thanks for any help.

The following will tell you what backlight drivers have been precompiled for your kernel.
      vdir /usr/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/video/backlight

They are "kernel objects", hence the extension somemod.ko. One of these objects may drive your backlight. It can be loaded using
      sudo modprobe somemod"

To determin which module to use issue
      sudo lshw
and find the line which lists your backlight. It will also include some identifying information. (I don't have a backlight so I can't supply an example) Use that info to see if it matches any *.ko in your kernel list of backlight ko's. If you find one that you think is it, or is close, you can use modinfo. Here is an example using lbm3533.ko.
      Code:
      :~$ [B]modinfo lm3533[/B]
      filename: /lib/modules/5.11.0-38-generic/kernel/drivers/video/backlight/lm3533_bl.ko

There are no params in the backlight *.ko's that I've looked at so there would be nothing to adjust. The *.ko will either work or it wont.
If the backlight is recognized its folder will be in /sys/class/leds and you can probably locate a systemd unit.file to enable and start it.
