No I have not tried those steps. I tried the ones here a few days ago, but no joy..

I tried the first step in your link, and it asks for a display manager to choose, I was a bit casual about it and chose lightdm and my system could only start in low graphics mode. Kubuntu users be sure to choose 'SDDM' if prompted to choose a display manager. I will continue trying the rest of the steps after work and let you know how I get on.
