    Streamed Audio Problems

I have Kubuntu 14.04. Once in a while I go on a Youtube music video binge. I noticed a few weeks ago that at random, I experience a skip or two during all youtube songs. Prior to a few weeks ago, all was well. Tonight I went directly to Vevo and the same thing happens. The video side seems good; only the audio side is messed up. This can happen from 1-3 times during a song. Additionally, the audio quality is lacking. I switched to the Windows 10 side of my laptop and it's excellent. With both Windows and Kubuntu, audio files saved to my HDD are good to go. I reckon it's one of those plugin deals (streaming?) of which I'm totally ignorant. Suggestions welcome.

I haven't experienced the skipping so can't really help there. I have installed kubuntu-restricted-extras so maybe there's something in there?

As for the quality, have a look at this thread https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...obal-equaliser. I also had to set it as my preferred device under System Settings -> Multimedia -> Audio and Video Settings -> Audio Playback -> Music (Phew) and under the Video section too.

      Thanks. I'll check it out.

I did the Konsole deals and the last lines show the following; no idea what it means:

        W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/dl.google.com_linux_chrome_deb_dists_stable_main_b inary-amd64_Packages)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
        richard@richard-HP-15-Notebook-PC:~$ apt-get update
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
        richard@richard-HP-15-Notebook-PC:~$

Additionally, I did the music / video deal in System Settings to include the "test" button. Though the apply button had the green arrow, the apply button was grayed-out and appeared to not function. The streaming glitcher (skip/hiccup, etc) remains present.

          The warning: W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable/main amd64 Packages

is telling you that you have two entries in sources.list that are the same. One needs to be removed. The errors (E are due to you running the command -- apt-get update -- without prefacing it with sudo; sudo apt-get update.

apt commands cannot be run unless prefaced with sudo (unless you are running "as root" in the console already).

Thanks Snowhog. I ran it with "sudo" this time and it finished up with

W: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/de...stable/Release Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
            richard@richard-HP-15-Notebook-PC:~$

I reckon that took care of the error I experienced in Konsole?

I don't understand when in audio/video settings, when selecting either "music" or video, the only active button (which works) is the test button. The other 3 buttons, prefer / defer / apply, are dead.

Can you post the exact commands you ran as you are still getting an error.

OK, you should have the equaliser installed, it will be under the multimedia section of the KDE Menu. The error message was due to re-running the update without root (sudo) privileges. It looks like you have an out of date or broken repository set up either in /etc/apt/sources.list or in the directory /etc/apt/sources.list.d which is causing

                  Code:
W: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/Release Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
It is probably worth starting a new thread about that, posting the message and your sources.list file so it can be sorted out.
