    I noticed in the dropdown link from the networking Icon, that it says that the last time I used the WiFi was March 9, 2015. I did not know if that was important information, or not.

    If that was the case, I do not remember it. My memory is that it has been about 6 months. Perhaps I remember inaccurately. I am sorry if I do. There are some things about getting older that can not be controlled by the ancient one. I apologize if I have been misleading you. If so, it was not intended.

      This is 70-persistent-net.rules. I have been searching for information, and found a post that suggested removal of this file might fix the problem. I don't understand the implications of what is said, but thought you would. It appears to me we are very close to fixing the problem, eluded by a bit of information. It was posted Dec. 13, 2014:

      If you can't repair your wlan interface, wifi network, you must do this:

      First activate your wifi by shortkey of your computer (for example Fn+F2).

      Then:

      rfkill unblock all
      sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
      sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
      sudo reboot

      # This file was automatically generated by the /lib/udev/write_net_rules
      # program, run by the persistent-net-generator.rules rules file.
      #
      # You can modify it, as long as you keep each rule on a single
      # line, and change only the value of the NAME= key.

      # PCI device 0x10ec:0x8168 (r8169)
      SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:1e:33:d1:e8:93", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0"

      # PCI device 0x8086:0x4232 (iwlwifi)
      SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:1e:65:23:99:08", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="wlan*", NAME="wlan0"

        I just got connected. I went to the Router Manufacturer. During the help process, I found that my password is 63 characters. When I tried to connedt and a password was requested, copy/paste failed. Apparently 62 chagacters was the maximum my system could accept, so the 63 character password failed every time. We changed to a slightly smaller password and when entered the connection worked. Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I understand this is an unusual problem that was new to the technician. I hope this statement will help anyone who has the same problem. It was probably created in a version update, or something like that.

          A 62-63 character password, you like your security in numbers!

          I would have expected a limit of say 64 or 256
