I don't have a network Icon. There is only, Kmenu, Dolphin, Firefox and Activities. I don't know where they have gone. Is there any chance by restarting it might connect? It is frustrating, because it looked like you found the solution.

Also they are very small, the Icons, I mean. and I am unable to unlock the widgets then click on the acorn that would increase the size of them.

I restarted while waiting for your reply. The wifi Icon did not appear, but the rest did and they were large again. Should I have removed the Ethernet connection prior to doing that anyway?

It just says Wired 1 connected nothing about the wifi or choices. It has been that way since I got connected using Ethernet cable. Thanks for your patience.

Also, I disconnected the Ethernet cable and restarted while waiting, and the little screen you mentioned showed a red x in it. Also, I was not connected. I then plugged in the Ethernet cable and got the hard-wire connection again. But nothing about wifi.
