I guess you missed the mention just below the screenprint. I will reiterate, it is a laptop, Toshiba Satelite A505-S6569 2Ghz w/8GB RAM.

What you request is not on my screen. The 'Icon' that appears like a 'desktop screen' is the Ethernet connected icon. The down arrow does not reveal what you are looking for. The reason for the screen print is to show you everything I am seeing. WiFi worked for years on this computer. It became unavailable about 6 months ago, when I lost everything in a HDD failure. When I used the Toshiba Recovery disk, it re-installed as it is now. I also have Windows Vista in a dual-boot configuration. Six Windows drivers are missing there and two relate to Ethernet and WiFi.

I don't understand. If you mean when I am looking at the screen, I cannot find anything that relates to WiFi. If you mean looking on the outside of the laptop, left side, there doesn't appear to be anything that relates to WiFi. Outside of the laptop is a USB port, then ventilation for the OS, then a female serial port which I connect the monitor, then the Ethernet port, then HDMI port and a couple I do not recognize then the mic and sound port. On the screen of the laptop I showed you a screenprint. I am very confused and do not think I understand your reply.

Thank you for your patience, Vinny. I turned on the WiFi switch. A light appeared near the switch, so I suspect it is now connected. Then I restarted the computer with the Ethernet Cable unconnected, to try and get the computer to connect via WiFi. It still did not make any connection. How do I check to see if the computer recognized the WiFi?

                  Vinny,

Go ahead with what you need to do. I can wait another day. My laptop has not been able to connect for about 6 months, another day is OK. I really appreciate your attention. Perhaps we can continue tomorrow, my good friend. I can see we are finally making progress.

If you google this (WiFi switch on the Toshiba Satellite A505-S6965), you get what Vinny says: wireless switch is on the front near the left end.

Apparently, others are having this question, too. I read the Manual (well, I scanned it), and could not see a clear pic of this or mention of it, but it may be there.

When I selected the switch, it made a little light appear on the front of the laptop, which suggested I did something, but I still do not have wifi, even after restarting.

After I move the switch, what do I do next?
