kwin 100% cpu Nvidia 750ti [new to linux]

I currently have kubuntu 14.04 and use a Nvidia 750ti graphics card. Latest nvidia proprietary drivers are in use. What started happening (i dont know when) is that all kde menus became unresponsive. So I went to the terminal ctrl alt f2, and used the top command. I see that kwin is at 100% cpu usage but eventually after several minutes will stop. As soon as I click on any menu this process is repeated. The best solution i could come up with was installing gnome. I followed this guide.

Everything seems to be running great. I wanted to post this incase someone else needed a work around.

Also, in order for me to use this card without getting a nouveau unknown intr failed x044 error (i dont remember the exact message) I installed the os with a different video card and then followed a different guide
