Toshiba Satellite P755 - Cant get the nvidia card installed.

I have tryed to install my nvidia video card for the past 3 days. Every time i install the drivers it seems like it installs with no errors. but i still cant play games because of a openGL error.
How do i see if my drivers have been installed correctly? And if it is installed correctly what is making the openGL fail every time?

    Nvidia GT 540M

When you say "tryed to install my nvidia video card", do you mean the driver?

        Ah.

Go to System > Additional Drivers

Is an NVidia driver shown? If 'yes', select it and activate it.

This looks to be yet another Optimus-equipped laptop. The easiest way to get the nVidia graphics to run is to disable the Intel graphics in your firmware. Please try that: look for a configuration option that allows you to toggle the graphics output to "discrete" or something similar.

If you don't have such an option, then you'll have to learn about something called Bumblebee. It's a set of modules and utilities that allow you to indicate on which graphics chip you wish to run certain programs.

Yup, exactly what Steve said. My acer is like that. Without using Bumblebee I cannot use my GT650. And, I cannot turn off my Intel graphics in the BIOS setup. Fortunately, my Intel 4000HD is giving me acceptable speed for Minecraft and the other graphical games I play. Vsyced at 60fps.

Same as GreyGeek. No bios option to turn off Intel card in my Acer, but Intel graphics work fine including desktop effects. I have tried Bumblebee and saw no advantages.
Linux because it works. No social or political motives in my decision to use it.
