KMail will send but not retrieve mail

    Linux Bumpyputer 3.8.0-32-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 1 22:35:23 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    Description: Ubuntu 13.04
    Release: 13.04
    Codename: raring

    Mail Program: Kmail (Latest Version)
I am finding the KMail Documentation very confusing because it should be more explicit for newbies like me.
Problem: Unable to receive mail Can send mail OK.

    I followed these instructions:
    Gmail Settings:
Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings
    1. Sign in to Gmail.
    2. Click the gear in the top right.
    3. Select Settings.
    4. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    5. Select Enable IMAP.
    6. Click Save Changes.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    imap.gmail.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL:Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS
    smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Use same settings as incoming mail server
Full Name or Display Name: [your name]
Account Name or User Name: your full Gmail address (bumpysax@gmail.com).
Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
Email address: your full Gmail address (bumpysax@gmail.com)
Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
My Question: What is a “Google Apps” user? Since I use Google GMail, does that make me one?
    Password: my Gmail password
I would be very grateful for any constructive help on this topic.

        Thanks for the link!
        Followed instructions at http://userbase.kde.org/Working_with_GMail
        My Kontact : Version 4.11.2
        Opened Kontact..
Click on Mail in the left vertical navigation bar. This brings you to the KMail part of Kontact.
To set up the forwarding options, go to: Settings -> Configure KMail.
        According to the instructions:
The first step is to create a basic identify, this is to separate multiple accounts in the future, if you have them.
Can't do this – Kmail pops up! No way to create a “basic identity”
        What now?

When setting up your imap account select clear text instead of plain authentication method. As shown in the following screen image.
