I downloaded Kubuntu 12.04 LTS from the Kubuntu Website. I attempter to boot from my USB. (I used a program that I know works to put the .iso on the USB) and when I tried to boot it just comes up with a black screen with a lil flashing _ on it.
What are your computer specs (does it boot to other isos)?
What is the tool you used to write to the usb drive?
Did you check the iso image's md5sum?
My first suggestion is to check the md5sum, to make sure the iso is not corrupt.I then would try a different tool to write the image to disk - there is one on the image file itself. Unetbootin is another popular option. I find that sometimes one tool simply does not like a particular image, so trying another one might work.
