Muon Updates fail- authorization not provided

    kubuntu 12.10 64bit
Massive 98.2MB Muon Update Mar 7 2013. Clicked "Install Updates" but does not ask for authorization - had to close. How can I fix this?
The same error occurs when I try to download/install a file - was working OK yesterday!
I have not installed anything for sveral days.
Am leary of this massive update because on my previuos kubuntu installl a week ago I had so many problems after this kind of update that I had to completely reinstall.
Is Muon safe?? or are there current bugs??

    Muon is very good.
Hardly any software will be totally free of bugs.

When Muon does not do the trick, possibly because you have some unfinished updates that left something in limbo, you are better off trying to update via the command line.

Open a Konsole and type these (or copy and past them)
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    Wait for it to finish.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
This will tell you what updates are available, be very careful to click on Yes when it mentions the removal of many packages!

Now when either one of these commands returns an error you can try the remedy offered or copy and paste those errors here and wait for further advise.

Talking about big upgrades, the recent one from KDE4.10.0 to 4.10.1 was a >350MB download on my machines.
With such big updates not all is instantly available on the servers what can cause dependency issues so it's usually prudent to wait a day or so for this to get sorted.
