installing files from usp and newb problem with ktimer

forgive me powers that be,Im putting together 3 laptops for Easter presents and Im running out of time.I have tried searching for my answers but to no avail.

I have almost no experience with linux.I have managed to install dual booting kubuntu/backtrack laptops

1.I have some games and stuff I downloaded from utorrent on a usb I cant figure out how to install them.desent uplink alpha centauri etc, some other junk.

2.Either myself or my wife started ktimer somehow and now at startup it begins a dialog(to name the session,I believe).Annoying and not aesthetically pleasing for a gift. How can I turn it off?

    Thank you and happy Easter

How to install external software on Linux and Kubuntu depends on the format the file is.
Kubuntu is a Debian derivative and uses .deb packages, they are by far the easiest way to install something.
But there are other ways like having an (included) script that can do the complicated stuff after a simple click.

KTimer can be stopped by right-clicking it and selecting 'Close'.

When it keeps coming up after a reboot it might have set itself up in the Autostart list.
Go to System Settings/ System administration/Start Up and Shut Down and check if it's in there, then remove it.

An other way would be to start up the Muon Package Manager and uninstall the program...

        Hi....

We're all people (and users of Linux) created by one Creator, none of us are better than the other.

What operating system were the programs made for? If windows, "wine" may help. It's available in repositories, just use a package manager like Muon or Synaptic to download and install it. However, it doesn't work with everything and it requires a bit of a learning curve, as I am now finding out myself.

If Linux, what are the file types?

        Regards...

"You have just bought a game that was specially written for Linux, a free operating system written by thousands of people all over the world.

If you already have Linux installed, please reboot into it, mount your CD-ROM with the mount command (e.g. mount /mnt/cdrom) and then read the README file for instructions on installing this game.

If you don't yet have Linux, you can buy it from your favorite software reseller or download it for free. You can find out more about Linux and where you can download it at http://www.linux.org/.

Thank you for supporting Linux, games, and free software! "

            Hi...

No problem. Just move (transfer) the .iso file to, say, your desktop and then you can follow the instructions either here or here.

            Hope this helps...
