How to stop Kde/kdm in kubuntu 9.0?

Hai friends,

I need to stop kdm starting from booting in init.d file. I dont want to start kdm everytime i switch off and switch on the system. I can able to start it from rc.local. but now i want to stop it from the begining itself in init.d or some other configuration file. Plz help me

Cant you just boot into runlevel 3?
