Not an answer. More an agreement.

I got a Belkin USB-LPT cable at a charity shop. I can't get it to work in Linux either...

    Hi....

You might want to give the CUPS Web Interface a try and see if you can configure your printer on it. There are posts here that go into greater detail concerning this service but as of right now, I can't locate them.

At this point, I don't know if it's the actual conversion cable or the specific driver that Linux is stumbling on.

    Hope this helps...

    Regards...

My current computer has no LPT port, so I bought a USB-to-LPT conversion cable to connect my old HP LaserJet 5P. This works fine on Windows (dual-boot system), but I haven't been able to get it to work under Kunbuntu 11.10. The System Settings > Printer Configuration tool recognizes the connection (Device URI: usb://HP/LaserJet%205P), and I have tried all of the LaserJet 5p drivers, but none of them send the page to the printer when I click Print Test Page or Print Self Test. I have no trouble getting the printer to print it's own self-test page.

Any suggestions? Any help much appreciated.
