kubuntu 11.04 on dell inspiron 700m laptop

I'm trying to boot Kubuntu 11.04 with a USB thumbdrive on a Dell inspiron 700m. I used the start up disk creator on my desktop and loaded the ISO onto the usb drive. When I try to boot everytyhing (loading screens and such) works fine untill the desktop starts to load, at which point a black screen appears with a mouse curser on it. The curser is responcive but no desktop appears... black screen only.

    Hi....

I'm not sure if this is the problem or if it would help but did you copy the .ISO (to your USB drive) using these instructions?

Also, did you verify the md5sum for this copy?

I wonder if the problem is Intel video?

Look here: http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2010/05/...up-workaround/ The solution here seems to be to modify Boot.

      I don't know if 10.04 has Grub or Grub2.

(In Debian the answer is not to modify Boot, but to use the Liquorix kernel.)
