    No sound

    Hey,

I have been unable to get sound to work in my kubuntu 10.04 install. While I'm not entirely new to linux, I have absolutely no idea how to fix this problem - I tried updating alsa, then promptly gave up. I do not know what other information I need to give to you, so sorry in advance for that.

Btw, I honestly do not know what soundcard I have installed. I know it has something to do with azalia, but short of that I have been unable to ID it correctly. Its just a feature in my motherboard manual. I have an Asus AM3 motherboard if that helps.

*Another question, I had issues getting the live CD to work - I had to enable nomodeset in order for anything to appear on my screen after launching without installation or installing. After I got it installed, using the proprietry ATI drivers fixed my issue, yet now I am unable to use most desktop gfx enhancements. Is this related? My card is a HD 4770

    Thanks
    OJ

    Open a console and type:
    Code:
    lspci
    and post the output.

Do you have two audio cards installed - an on-board and a card?

It took a bit of struggling to compile the update script provided in #6, but in the end it worked, so thanks!

Any chance you can help me out with the desktop issues?

                Your welcome.

No, I can't (on your video card issue), but others here can. So, as they say, "Stay tuned to this channel."

                  More issues :-/

I had to reinstall Kubuntu today due to some weird issue with the GFX driver - I took a stab at fixing it myself but did not succeed. Once I restarted I ran the script I used last night, but this time I have no audio. I am 100% sure I ran the script correctly too. When I open the mixer, I only have 2 channels, just master and pcm. Last night after the script fixed it I had a couple of options, like front and center. I guess the lack of options confirms I did not fix it. Also, if I run alsamixer i can access the two channels, but neither of them have a mute box under them so that can not be it.

I have to guess that whatever script I ran in earlier yesterday fixed it when combined with this one, but since my firefox history is gone I have no clue what script that was. Any advice?

                  Thanks
