    file sharing with windows 7

I need help with connecting Kubuntu to Windows 7 on a windows 7 homegroup. Using Samba I can see the Windows 7 desktop but can't seem to get past the user name and password prompt. I enter in both and get prompted again. Does anyone have any suggestion?

    lrforsythe,
Somewhere I have this bookmarked.....but I cannot find it right now. You need to disable the secure authentication portion of the "Home Group" feature. Doing so, seems to set Windows 7 back to a legacy setting, typical of Windows XP, and will allow the currently shipped Samba Client in common distros, to see your shares on the Win 7 box. A side note, I understand that this "security feature" also does not play nicely with Windows XP....so the problem is not isolated to Linux.

If you don't have any luck with samba, you can try another way to connect computers - ssh.
Kubuntu 16.04 on two computers and Kubuntu 17.04 on DELL Latitude 13
