    Eclipse and c++

    I want to use Eclipse with the c++ CDT plug in. Looking through the KPackageKit contents there doesn't appear to be a CDT plug in available.

    Is there any reason why I can't download the relevant Linux package from the Eclipse web site and install that?

    I don't see any, since the Eclipse in the repository is 3.5.2, which requires the 6.x CDT, and installation is, at least when I was using it, merely copying the directories and files to the proper subdirectories. The site for that plugin is here, and it looks like the Feb 26, 2010 release is 6.0.2.

      Thank you for the full response. I was thinking simply of downloading eclipse-cpp-galileo-SR2-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz (the latest release) from the Eclipse web site and installing that since it contains both IDE and CDT.

        You will, of course, have to add your own Eclipse items to the Menu structure. Right mouse on the KGear Icon and choose "Menu Editor".

          That sounds straightforward - no messing about with .desktop files!

            It is. All you have to know is the location of the executable and the icon you want to use, but that should be no problem for you.
