Usb dont work in Kubuntu 9.10

My usb ports on a MSI notebook don't work after installing Kubuntu 9.10. No power or access is possible.

Sorry, I don't see any reference that there is something wrong here, see my own results:

Hi Dibl, I have only one thing plugged into my ports, a Belkin USB Mouse for reference and comparison. Three outside ports.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the USB interface on the computer. Might be an issue with the USB device -- I would suggest trying more than one device. Also, on battery there might not be enough power to run a USB external drive through the USB port. That would be a design issue with the MSI. In any event, it does not appear to be a Kubuntu/Linux problem.

Sorry Dibl, I'm not the one with a problem, I was answering the original mperth and giving you an example at the same time. I'll sign off and let you handle this one.

                okay..
well it worked OK on windows xp and windows7.

My listing, shown in the first post is done when an usb-stick is in the usb-port of the notebook. It is no reaction - no power indicator in stick and nothing is happening on the screen.

I am new to Linux and Kubuntu, so I am not so familiar whit the commands and tweaks to get tings done.

I think Kubuntu is a very good system, and I hope I can get a solve of my problem. Everthing else is working just fine.

Re: Usb dont work in Kubuntu 9.10

                  Code:
                  lsusb
is the correct command to list usb ports and connected devices. You did the first command correctly, and it shows a USB bus with nothing connected. So you actually did have a device connected, and it works correctly in Windows OS? Same result with that camera?

Hmmmm. That indicates some problem with the Linux OS and its USB driver. It's unusual. If it were me, the first thing I would do is try booting another Linux OS, in order to determine whether this is some issue that affects all Linux kernels, or just *buntu. So, I'm suggesting you take your pick of sidux, E-Live, Fedora, Mepis, or whatever strikes your fancy that is NOT a *buntu Linux, carefully make a Live CD or bootable USB stick, and try booting that and then try using your USB connections. The outcome of this experiment will help determine the nature of the problem.

Also, search Ubuntu forums, using the model of your MSI netbook and "usb", in case they have encountered the problem and reported it. USB performance should be the same with Ubuntu as with Kubuntu for the same OS version.

Late-breaking thought here ... in your MSI's BIOS, look at the USB channel, and see if it offers "modes". There might be a difference in performance with "enable legacy" or whatever alternate mode is offered. It's worth a try.

This is a known bug in the netbook edition (I had it with my MSI as well). Is it the netbook remix you are using?
