    Mounting USB HD?

In your opinion what is best for an external USB hard disk?
Mounted at boot time or plugged in later?

    Thanks in advance...

@somewhere2go you have violated the "don't hijack another guy's thread with a different question" rule of forum etiquette. Please don't do that -- you can start your own thread and folks will be happy to answer you there.

However, I'll give you one freebie.

You can get a lot more capacity for your money by building your own. Assuming your purpose is mainly backups and large capacity for music files and such, you don't need the world's fastest hard drive -- one like this will do nicely:

Then you can mount it in a nice enclosure like this:

and connect via USB cable. Or if you get fancy and have an eSATA connector, then you could even go for one of these:

There you go -- 2T of portable external storage for under $200.

Where do I find that option? "Mounted at boot time or plugged in later?"

I am using Kubuntu 9.10 (of course) with KDE SC 4.4

It will mount (and show) a usb flash drive but not my Maxtor portable usb hard drive.
